The structure and conductivity of poly(pyrrole) and poly(thiophene-octylthiophene), PTOT, synthesised in microporous membranes have been studied using X-ray diffraction and electrical measurements. Poly(pyrrole) with two different counter ions was electrochemically synthesised in membranes with different pore sizes. The conductivity of poly(pyrrole) in such structures is known to increase compared to bulk conductivity, which is also shown here. In addition to this, X-ray diffractograms show that the crystallinity in the poly(pyrrole) increases with decreasing pore size. The increased conductivity is therefore suggested to depend on an increased ordering during the polymerisation inside the pores, making the poly(pyrrole) partially crystalline. PTOT also shows an increase in conductivity when polymerised in the narrow pores.
