REGIONAL SETTING OF THE DUNNAGE MELANGE IN THE NEWFOUNDLAND APPALACHIANS

This study was undertaken to portray the Dunnage Melange in a sharper, more realistic manner over its full extent, paying special attention to relationships between the melange and nearby stratifid rocks. Formation fo the melange appears to have heralded a major change in the tectonic regime of central Newfoundland. It marks the change from active arc volcanism to arc degradation and basinal infilling. These phenomena are probably linked to events along a continent-ocean interface that lay to the east of the melange.
