CLUSTER ION-BEAM STUDY OF A SYSTEM WITH STRUCTURAL ISOMERS - CN++D2 (N = 2-12)

An ion beam study of the reaction of C(n)+ (n = 2-12) with D2 - a system which is known to have reactant structural isomers with very different reactivity - is reported. We give absolute cross sections for the major product channels. By varying collision energy, we can study the chemistry of both reactive and "unreactive" isomers, and we obtain evidence for multiple stable isomers for cluster sizes where thermal energy kinetics work shows only a single component.
