THE EFFECT OF ELECTRON INERTIA ON SOLITARY WAVES IN A PLASMA WITH AN ION-BEAM

摘要
The properties of solitary waves in a plasma with an ion beam are investigated. The two conditions for the existence of solitary-wave solutions are determined and presented graphically in parameter space. Electron inertia is shown to restrict the regime of the fast and slow beam solitary waves to beam velocities that are less than the electron thermal velocity.
