EFFECT OF ELECTRODE CONFIGURATION ON NORMAL IONIZING SHOCK WAVES

摘要
The characteristics of normal ionizing shock waves in hydrogen have been investigated in a cylindrical geometry for three electrode configurations- coaxial electrodes, short centre and outer ring electrodes, and short centre electrode with outer cylindrical electrode. While the fraction of the total input current driving the front depends on the electrode configuration, the shock velocity at a given drive current is the same for all three configurations. The shock velocities are also in agreement with the theoretical predictions of Taussig and Woods (1966).
