OXYGEN ATOM TRANSFER PROCESSES - REACTION OF TRANS-DINITROBIS(TRIETHYLPHOSPHINE)NICKEL(II), NI(NO2)2(PET3)2, WITH CARBON-MONOXIDE

摘要
The reaction of trans-Ni(NO2)2(PEt3)2 with CO under mild conditions (11 °C, 1 atm, benzene solution) has been shown to afford CO2 in addition to the previously reported1 Ni(NO2)(NO)(PEt3)2. An l8O-labeling study using trans-Ni(Nl8O2)2(PEt3)2 and CO unambiguously establishes NO2- as the source of oxygen in the conversion of CO to CO2. Moreover, the extent of l8O enrichment in the CO2 product indicates that the intermediate(s) involved must be sufficiently long lived to undergo appreciable—but not statistical—oxygen scrambling between carbon and nitrogen atoms prior to the irreversible loss of CO2. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
