摘要
The details of a finite element model for the study of thermally induced seizure in journal bearings is presented. The phenomenon of seizure involves a rapid transient response leading to a catastrophic bearing failure. To study the seizure phenomenon it is necessary to make a careful analysis of the complex interaction that takes place between the rotating journal and the stationary bushing. The model includes provisions for the non-linear nature of the encroachment and partitioning of heat between the surfaces of the shaft and the bushing. A new criterion for a realistic assessment of 'time to seizure' is introduced and a numerical iteration procedure for the prediction of the time to seizure is outlined.
