EFFECT OF ROUTE OF VACCINATION ON IMMUNE RESPONSE OF MICE TO A SINGLE DOSE OF HEAT-KILLED MYCOPLASMA MYCOIDES VAR MYCOIDES

Single doses of heat-killed Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides were examined for their ability to produce immunity capable of suppressing the bacteriaemia which follows intraperitoneal infection of mice with the organism. Intravenous vaccination resulted in a strong immunity as judged by challenge with large doses of viable organisms. Immunity developed within 11 days and persisted for at least 102 days and very small doses of vaccine were shown to be effective. Vaccination by the subcutaneous route failed completely to produce evidence of immunity under all conditions tested. © 1968.
