摘要
We present a high-statistics, species-identified measurement of the W-to-Be per-nucleon cross-section ratio, R(W/Be), for high-x(t) hadrons and high-tau h+h- pairs produced in p-A collisions at square-root s = 38.8 GeV. The data extend to 0.62 in x(t) and 0.39 in square-root-tau. For single hadrons, R(W/Be) peaks at p(t) almost-equal-to 5 GeV/c and decreases to almost-equal-to 1 for mesons with p(t) > 8 GeV/c. At fixed p(t), R(W/Be) falls with square-root s. For symmetric pairs With square-root-tau > 0.28, R(W/Be) = 0.84 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.07, suggesting a nuclear suppression of high-z fragmentation. R(W/Be) increases with p(out), indicative of constituent multiple scattering.
