EQUIVALENCE OF 5-DIMENSIONAL FIELD EQUATIONS AND BARGMANN-WIGNER-SALAM EQUATIONS

It is shown that Salam's generalization of the Bargmann-Wigner equations, for particles of definite mass m and definite spin, is equivalent to two types of field equations of the form S ABpBΨ = pAΨ: (i) The de Sitter-symmetric theory, in which p A = (pμ, p5 = m), and SAB are the infinitesimal generators of SO(4, 1); (ii) The conform-symmetric theory, in which pA = (pμ, p5 = m), p6 = 0) and SAB are the infinitesimal generators of SO(4, 2). The tensorial and spin-tensorial realizations of the latter equations are derived; these are just the equations used in the Ũ(12) theory. © 1969.
