Solar limb scanning at 5 wavelengths from 0.35 to 2 mm on the JCMT has revealed significant limb extension which increases rapidly with wavelength, in agreement with other measurements. This appears to be related to the increasing opacity of overlapping spicules which appear to become optically thick at about 1 mm.
