THERMAL QUENCHING OF THE EU2+ PHOTOLUMINESCENCE IN KCL AND NACL-CRYSTALS

The photoluminescence spectra, lifetimes, and intensity of emission of Eu2+ are examined for KCl:Eu2+ and NaCl:Eu2+ crystals within the range of 15 to 800 K. The quantum yield of emission related to the dipoles and aggregation products formed up to 400 K is found to be temperature independent. Thermal quenching of the emission related to the aggregation products formed at 425 to 525 K is explained by the two-channel nonradiative de-activation of excited t2g(4f(6)5d) levels.
