SOLID-STATE C-13 NMR-STUDIES OF VULCANIZED ELASTOMERS .2. SULFUR VULCANIZATION OF NATURAL-RUBBER

The intent of this research was to obtain a further understanding of the final vulcanizate network structure and any insights into the mechanism of vulcanization. The extensive model compound data found in the literature indicate several different positions for sulfur attachment to the NR chain. It has also been determined that the crosslinks have variations in sulfur rank. Other main chain modifications have also been observed. NR systems vulcanized with only elemental sulfur have been studied.
