British Blackcaps have left by the end of September. Passage at coastal observatories continues through October and even into November; these seem to be continental birds, and it is from these that our wintering Blackcaps originate. Probably the variable numbers overwintering here are linked to the scale of this late autumn passage. © 1979 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
