A theory is developed for inelastic collisions of a charged particle by a hydrogenic atom in the presence of an intense electromagnetic field. The theory is applied to electron-hydrogen atom collision for one-photon absorption and the transition 1 s-2 s. We calculate the differential and total cross-sections, in the first Born approximation, for different orientations of initial momentum of incident electron and electric field and different values of frequency and intensity of fields. © 1979 Società Italiana di Fisica.
