PICOSECOND ANALYSIS OF TRANS-STILBENE FLUORESCENCE

摘要
The appearance of two components in the decay of the emission of trans-stilbene solutions has been re-examined by an analysis of the time resolved fluorescence in the pico- and nanosecond region, above 273 K. The slow component, attributed to a return to the trans-geometry after initial photoisomerization, has not been observed in pure samples. From the measured lifetimes it results that the rate constant ktp for photoisomerization to excited twisted stilbene shows an Arrhenius temperature dependence, with an activation energy of 2.6 kcal/mole and a frequency factor of 1.2 × 1012 s-1. The reverse process has a rate constant kpt with ktp/kpt ≫ 5 × 102. © 1979.
