摘要
The scattering-matrix method has been applied to the study of surface modes of vibration in a semi-infinite rocksalt crystal bounded by a (001) surface in the approximation of the point-ion model without retardation. The attenuation constants and the frequencies of these modes have been obtained for several values of the wave-vector component in the surface. The frequencies of the infrared-active surface modes lie very close to those of the bulk modes. The attenuation depth of the surface modes extends up to 50 atomic layers. The results obtained differ significantly from those of a thin slab. © 1969 The American Physical Society.
