SELF-CONSISTENT CALCULATION OF ROTATIONAL STATES IN THE RARE-EARTH REGION WITH AN EFFECTIVE GROUND-STATE INTERACTION

Self-consistent calculations of rotational states in rare earth nuclei have been performed with the Skyrme interaction. The cranking approach was chosen as an approximation to angular momentum projection. For two nuclei, 162Yb and 164Er, Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov and Hartree-Fock calculations were performed without using a core approximation. The results in the lower spin region (I ≤ 20 h {combining short stroke overlay}) show a qualitative agreement with existing pairing-plus-quadrupole calculations and experiment. In the high spin region a moment of inertia close to the rigid value was obtained. This result is discussed with respect to recent experiments. The frequently applied core-approximation was found to be unreliable for excited bands. © 1979.
