LIMITING ACTIVITY-COEFFICIENTS FOR (1,1,2-TRICHLOROTRIFLUOROETHANE (FREON-113) + AN OXYGEN-CONTAINING SUBSTANCE OR A HYDROCARBON)

Limiting activity coefficients were determined by comparative ebulliometry or by a modified Rayleigh distillation method at T = 308.15 K for {1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane (Freon-113) + propan-2-one or butan-2-one or methyl ethanoate or ethyl ethanoate or methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether or tetrahydrofuran or ethanol or propan-1-ol or 1,1-dimethylethanol or hexane or cyclohexane or benzene}. Reasonable agreement was found between the experimental f∞ values and those extrapolated from our full-range (vapour + liquid) equilibrium measurements reported previously for some of the mixtures. The measured values imply azeotropic behaviour for Freon-113 with the alcohols, propan-2-one, and methyl ethanoate. Through the MOSCED predictive method, the azeotrope screening was extended to other Freon-113-containing mixtures using Freon-113 parameters based in part on the present experimental results. © 1993 Academic Press Ltd.
