摘要
Eleven patients with abnormal mouthing movements are described. They were mostly elderly, edentulous, long-stay hospital patients. Mouthing was inhibited by eye closure, a touch on the face, or painting of the mouth and tongue with local anesthetic. The brains of 2 patients were examined and cerebellar lesions confined to the midline declive, folium, tuber vermis and pyramis were found. These are the projection areas to the cerebellum of tactile impulses from the mouth. We believe mouthing to be a cerebellar sign, related to a midline cerebellar lesion. © 1968.
