摘要
A device and method have been developed for the precise determination of the time evolution of the stability of suspensions. The technique is applied to the study of suspensions of well characterized spheres of polystyrene. The change with time of the light absorption properties of the studied systems were detected by computer control of the spectrophotometer employed. The experimental results, shown as stability of the suspensions as a function of KCl, CaCl2 and La(NO3)3 concentrations, are discussed in the light of the theoretically calculated curves of interaction energy between polystyrene spheres from DLVO theory. A very good agreement as represented by critical coagulation concentration is found between theory and experiment for the three electrolytes employed.
