EPITAXIAL BCC FEXCO1-X ALLOY-FILMS ON ZNSE(001)

Molecular beam epitaxy has been used to fabricate high-quality bcc FexCo1-x(001) ferromagnetic alloy films on ZnSe-epilayered GaAs substrates spanning both the thermodynamically allowed bcc regime (0.25 < x less-than-or-equal-to 1) and the epitaxy-extended metastable bcc regime (0 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.25). Film growth was monitored by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and Auger electron spectroscopy, and the concentration-dependent magnetic properties of these alloy films were characterized by ferromagnetic resonance and vibrating sample magnetometry. It was observed that the RHEED characteristics of the alloy films generally are superior to those of similarly grown pure Fe(001) films.
