The absence of ghost states in Veneziano's crossing symmetric Regge formula is shown to imply universal slopes. For certain trajectories it has been verified numerically that there are no ghosts among all the daughters up to the 50th recurrence. The asymptotic behaviour in the impact parameter was also investigated. © 1969 Società Italiana di Fisica.
