CHARGE-TRANSFER IN LOW DIMENSIONAL SEMICONDUCTORS - ONE DIMENSION VERSUS 2 DIMENSIONS

摘要
We point out some large differences between two-dimensional and one-dimensional semiconductors. Due to the change in geometry both the electric field and charge transfer are strongly altered. As a result, in a one-dimensional semiconductor the electron density per unit length depends only slightly on the donor density; another consequence is that undoped spacer layers have to be much thicker in a one-dimensional semiconductor than in a two-dimensional semiconductor to be efficient. Moreover, the importance of residual doping is emphasized. © 1992.
