摘要
This paper presents a study on the effect of obstacles placed on the top of a typical noise barrier. Obstacles were used in order to obtain more excess attenuation than might be obtained by the typical thin noise barriers without any obstacles on the top. Two types of cylinders were employed as obstacles, a perfectly hard cylinder and a perfectly absorptive cylinder. The hard cylinder is not as effective as the perfectly absorptive one, which amounts to 7 or 8 dB. The effect of the absorptive cylinder was checked experimentally, using a scale model, while a new absorptive cylinder was developed for practical use. The effect of the practical cylinder was also checked experimentally when it was installed at the top of an existing noise barrier along an express way. The effect was found to be about 2 to 3 dB(A) in the field experiment. This effect corresponds to the excess attenuation obtained by the use of a thin noise barrier, which is 2 m higher, but lacks obstacles.
