We report the growth of cm-dimension single crystals of Li2Ti3O7 from stoichiometric and near-stoichiometric melts using the Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. Air-quenching of the crystals from 1000°C avoids the two possible destructive phase transitions during cooling. The crystal growth results are compared to the published liquidus phase relations for Li2O-TiO2 in the vicinity of Li2Ti3O7. The optical transparency of crystals grown in Rh-free Pt ampoules is limited only by the purity of the starting materials. © 1979.
