摘要
EEG-intracellular relationships were investigated in isolated cerebral cortex. Visual analysis of unprocessed data showed that EEG activity was associated with spike discharges of the neuron as well as EEG-like fluctuations of the membrane potential. EEG silent periods were accompanied by a sustained relatively high polarization of the membrane without fluctuations. Although visual analysis did not indicate wave-for-wave correlation of EEG and intracellular oscillations, an electronic averaging procedure, utilizing the spike discharges as trigger points, revealed consistent, similar wave forms in both EEG and intracellular activity. The most typical result was an intracellular depolarizing wave associated with a negative-going EEG deflection. The results provide evidence for intracortical neuronal synchronizing mechanisms, active particularly at the time of neuronal discharge. © 1968.
