摘要
A numerical simulation of an erbium-doped fibre amplifier, which provides gain for green light at about 546 nm when pumped at around 980 nm by an upconversion mechanism, is presented in this paper. The model used incorporates the various radiative and nonradiative transitions that occur when the host glass is ZBLAN. It is applied to investigate the influence of saturation due to both a strong signal and the presence of amplified spontaneous emission. Unexpected behaviour that occurs in the presence of signal excited state absorption is predicted. Power amplifier performance is also discussed.
