摘要
Misleadingly high strengths may be recorded during undrained triaxial compression tests when failure results in the formation of one or more shear planes. As a result of negative pore pressures which are induced by the uneven distortion of the rubber membrane the deviator stress may increase after the appearance of shear planes. This effect is only likely to be significant for a soil whose ‘correct ’ stress-strain relation would show only a small drop from peak to residual, and where the rate of compression is slow enough to allow equalization of pore pressure throughout the specimen. © 1968, Thomas Telford Ltd.
