OXYGEN REQUIREMENTS OF LUCILIA-CUPRINA DURING DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE PUPARIUM

L. cuprina pupae were subjected to periods of anoxia and reduced oxygen concentrations. They were found to be most vulnerable immediately after pupation and just before adult eclosion, but could survive up to 96 hr of anoxia when treatment commenced between 2 and 7 days after pupation. Two‐day‐old pupae continued to develop normally in oxygen concentrations of only 4% and were limited below this mainly by an inability of the adult to emerge from the puparium. Cuprina peut survivre à 96 h d'anoxie quand le traitement commence entre 2 et 7 jours après la pupaison. Des pupes de 2 jours continuent à se développer normalement dans des concentrations d'oxygène ne dépassant pas 4%.
