摘要
In vitro incubations of anoxic Santa Barbara Basin sediments indicate that microbial methane production is not inhibited by seawater sulfate concentrations and that sulfate reduction may occur simultaneously. Anaerobic methane oxidation at sediment depths both within and below the sulfatereducing zone has also been observed, provided sulfate is initially present. The observed rates of methane production and oxidation agree with those obtained from modelling methane profiles. © 1979.
