摘要
The two relatively new techniques of Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM) and Laser Scanning Microscopy (LSM) are investigated for their potential use in studying fossil megaspore ultrastructure. Two Carboniferous (Lagenicula and Setosisporites) and one Triassic megaspore (Bowenispora) are used as examples. Comparisons of the conventional techniques of transmitted light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy are given. SAM and LSM provide useful additional tools for obtaining data on wall organisation. LSM particularly, provides good, medium magnification images of the spore exine.
