摘要
The processes discussed in this paper use microorganisms to remove heavy metal ions from solution. The microrganisms collect the material on their cell walls in the form of metal phosphates (aerobic process) or metal sulphides (anaerobic process). The microorganisms can be made to produce an iron sulphide which is an excellent absorbent for many metallic elements and which is magnetic. The microorganisms and their acquired material are removed and concentrated by high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS), a technique which is effective even weakly magnetic material. Solutions treated by the Bio Magnetic Separation and Extraction Process can have extremely low residual levels of metal ion remaining in solution.
