OXYGEN ADSORPTION ON A GERMANIUM COVERED TUNGSTEN FIELD EMITTER

摘要
The effect of oxygen adsorption on tungsten with different germanium coverage has been studied using FEM. The results show that: a) the effect of oxygen on the F-N characteristics is stronger the lower the degree of coverage for θ < 1; b) no change of field emission is noticed for a complete germanium layer; c) for thick" germanium film (θ > 1) oxygen adsorption results in an increase of the work function by 0.3 eV and a slight change in F-N characteristics. The results are interpreted in terms of localized bond formation between tungsten surface atoms and adsorbed germanium and oxygen. © 1969."
