The oxidation states of copper and oxygen in YBa2Cu3O6.5+delta have been carefully studied by various methods. The absence of superoxide (O2-) as well as peroxide (O2(2-) or .O-) in YBa2Cu3O6.5+delta is confirmed by comparing the selective redox titrations and colorimetric results for the reactions of KO2 and BaO2 in an aqueous solution. Furthermore, the X-ray photoelectron spectra of Cu2P allow us to support the existence of Cu3+ in the superconducting sample.
