ANISOTROPIC HYBRIDIZATION AND MAGNETISM IN ACTINIDE INTERMETALLICS

摘要
Characteristic features of the magnetism in light-actinide intermetallic compounds, as large orbital moments originating from itinerant electron states and huge magnetic anisotropy, are discussed in relation to electron-band structure, and especially to the 5f-ligand hybridization. UTX compounds are an example, where the bonding anisotropy leads to a strong anisotropy of magnetic properties. Experiments on single crystals of UNiGa can distinguish how different types of magnetic coupling affect electrical resistance for various current directions. The effect of magnetic field on inter-site spin-fluctuations in UNiAl is manifested in the enhancement of the gamma-coefficient of specific heat.
