摘要
The principal differences between the two alternative formulations of the Boundary Element Method of stress analysis, called the direct and indirect formulations, are described. Problems in stress analysis for conditions of Complete Plane Strain are shown to be capable of resolution into two subsidiary decoupled problems, identified as the plane and antiplane problems. Direct formulations of the Boundary Element Method are proposed for the solution of both these subsidiary problems. The procedures used for determining stresses around excavation boundaries, and stresses and displacements at internal points in the medium, are described. The method of analysis and the solution procedure are validated by comparison of the results of Boundary Element analysis of some simple excavation geometries with the results obtained from closed form solutions for the same problems. © 1979.
