POLARON CONTRIBUTION TO THE INFRARED OPTICAL-RESPONSE OF LA2-XSRXCUO4+DELTA AND LA2-XSRXNIO4+DELTA

摘要
The anomalous midinfrared absorption band in the optical conductivity of La2-xSrxCuO4+delta La2-xSrxNiO4+delta is interpreted in terms of photon-assisted hopping of small polarons. An analysis of the normal-state single crystal a-b plane data indicates that polarons in La2-xSrxNiO4+delta are small, whereas in La2-xSrxCuO4+delta the polarons are larger. The absence of bulk superconductivity in La2-xSrxNiO4+delta may be linked with smaller polaron size.
