IR-SPECTRA OF THE DIMERS OF CARBON-DIOXIDE AND NITROUS-OXIDE IN CRYOGENIC MATRICES

摘要
The IR spectra of the dimers of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide have been recorded in nitrogen and argon matrices at about 17K. The spectra have been interpreted in terms of the presence of weak van der Waals molecular complexes, stabilized in one instance by quadrupole-quadrupole and in the other by dipole-dipole forces. The structures of the dimers deduced on the basis of the spectra have been compared with those predicted by a recent ab initio study, and with those determined in the gas phase and in some earlier matrix isolation studies.
