SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION IN A HYPERTEXT MEDICAL HANDBOOK

The author describes the Dynamic Medical Handbook Project, which attempts to apply the memex concept to medical information management in two ways. First, he is studying how computer tools can facilitate the work of the manual's authors and editors. The concerns in these areas focus on the use of electronic mail, document description languages, outline organizers, hypertext systems, and bibliographic retrieval programs. Second, he is investigating new methods for retrieving information from dynamic medical books. In th course of this research, information-retrieval from a prototype hypertext manual has been examined.
