摘要
The absolute or "true" content of a particular constituent in geochemical reference materials can never be known. An alternative is the assignment of a "best" value which should approach the "truth" as closely as possible. This survey deals with problems encountered in the evaluation of those "best" values. Compilations, plotting of the data, check for normality, outlier elimination, and measures of central tendency are described. Examples of procedures frequently used for deriving "best" values are also presented.
