ZEEMAN EFFECT IN ABSORPTION SPECTRUM OF COPPER-DOPED ZINC SULFIDE

摘要
The Zeeman effect in the 1.44-μm absorption line in copper-doped ZnS has been measured at liquid-helium temperature. Pure cubic ZnS was prepared in order to obtain a single absorption line. The Landé g-factor is 0.71±0.02 for the ground state. The excited state is observed to exhibit only a doublet structure in a magnetic field instead of a quartet structure. The g factor for this doublet is 1.71±0.02. The measurements were made at 65 kOe. The Zeeman splittings are proportional to the field strength in the range 50-60 kOe. The angular dependence of the relative intensities of the observed transitions has been studied in an attempt to elucidate the nature of the excited state. © 1969 The American Physical Society.
