STRUCTURE AND MORPHOLOGY - RELATION TO THERMOPOWER PROPERTIES OF CONDUCTIVE POLYMERS

摘要
Polymers being typical insulators have the randomly entangled fibrillar morphology in macroscopic scale. Within each fiber, there are bundles of polymer chains. Conductive polymers have a unique property of high electrical conductivity where the electronic structure of polymer chains plays an essential role. However, the intrinsic electronic properties of a polymer chain are inhibited by the finite chain length, crosslinkings, defects, disorder and fibrillar morphology of polymers. The thermopower which is a zero current transport coefficient is an extremely useful probe for conductive polymers, because it is not interrupted by contact resistances. Discussion on the macroscopic structure, morphology and interchain phenomena is presented.
