摘要
Oral contraceptives and condoms were made available to households in 150 villages of rural Bangladesh. Active use of modern contraceptives increased from 1% to 18% of eligible couples within 3 months of distribution. However, because there was no strong field support system, discontinuation of orals was high and the use rate fell to 15% at 12 months. The addition of injectables and intensified field activities raised the use rate to 21%. A decline in the general fertility rate can be attributed to the initial phase of the contraceptive program.-Authors
