THE ROLE OF EXCITED-STATES IN THE PHOTOSENSITIZED OXIDATION OF SUBSTRATES WITH DIOXYGEN

摘要
Laser flash photolysis was employed to study the kinetics of the interaction of sulphonated aluminium and zinc phthalocyanines in excited states with substrates and dioxygen. The substrates (phenol, 4-chlorophenol, salicylic acid etc.) quench 1pi-pi* singlet states of the sensitizer whereas the 3pi-pi* triplet states are quenched solely by dioxygen. Electron transfer occurs inside the charge-transfer complex in the singlet state and the liberated ion radicals react further with dioxygen. The reaction products were identified by high performance liquid chromatography after continuous irradiation of the reaction mixture.
