TOTAL CROSS SECTION OF 234U AND PARAMETERS OF ITS SUB-THRESHOLD FISSION RESONANCES

摘要
A measurement of the total cross section of 234U is found to give a level spacing of 12 3± 1 5 eV and a neron strength function of (1 09±0.36) 10-4 determined from the neutron widths of 38 resonances below 687 eV These fine structures resonances from the major part of a narrow intermediate structure resonance in the sub-threshold fission cross section of 234U Combined with the fission cross section data of James and Rae, the neutron widths enable the fission widths of the resonances to be determined It is shown that the fission widths have a Lorentzian energy dependence superimposed on a Porter-Thomas distribution as predicted by Weigmann and Lynn and that the observed structure is most probably an example of weak coupling between states in the first and second fission potential barrier minima. © 1969.
