CORROSION AND PASSIVITY OF SOME PB-SN ALLOYS IN VARIOUS MEDIA

摘要
The electrochemical behaviour of five characteristic Pb-Sn alloys has been investigated in 9N H2SO4, in a phosphate buffer of pH 7·1, in 0·1N borax and in 0·1N Na2CO3. Galvanostatic and po tentiostatic methods show that in neutral and alkaline media the highest corrosion resistance is provided by the solder possessing the eutectic composition. It is also shown that the product of c.d. (in galvanostatic measurements) and time necessary for passivation in the last three media is constant for a given alloy and electrolyte solution. The mechanism of passivation of the five alloys is different from that of pure Pb. © 1969 Pergamon Press. Printed in Great Britain.
