TRANSITION-TEMPERATURE IN COPPER-OXIDE SUPERCONDUCTORS CORRELATED WITH ENERGY-LEVEL OF APICAL OXYGEN

A clear correlation between superconducting transition temperature, Tc, and the energy level of apical oxygen relative to that of the CuO2 plane, ΔVA, is found to exist throughout all the known hole-doped superconductors. We thus propose ΔVA to be a new scaling parameter for Tc's, which is independent of the hole concentration. Pressure dependence of Tc is explained in terms of this Tc-ΔVA correlation. © 1990.
