The crystallographic structures and magnetic properties of the nitrides of R2Fel7, R2Fe14B and RTiFe11 have been investigated using X-ray diffraction techniques and magnetic measurements. Nitrogen is found to have the effect of increasing the Curie temperature, as it expands the lattice. Moreover, a distinct effect on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy is observed in the nitride compounds. The lattice parameters and magnetic properties of R2Fe17N(x), R2Fe14BN(x) and RTiFe11N(x) are reported for R = Y, Sm and Nd.
