摘要
The continuation method, being a standard tool of numerical methods for bifurcation problems, has been applied to the solution of the steady axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equation for the flow in a cylindrical container with a rotating endwall. Results were found to be in very good agreement with previous experimental and numerical data regarding the range of parameters within which steady breakdown exists, the form of breakdown and geometric parameters of bubbles. By virtue of the numerical method, the role of the axisymmetric bifurcation in appearance of the steady breakdown was rigorously ruled out. The existence of the previously unobserved solutions of the steady Navier-Stokes equation containing bubble inside the the oscillatory flow region was established. These solutions were demonstrated to be unstable to the axisymmetric oscillations and the transition to nonsteady motion was interpreted as being due to the Hopf bifurcation.
